What Are Chakras?

In Hindu and Buddhist traditions, chakras are energy centers in the body. There are seven main chakras, running from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Each is associated with specific physical, emotional, and spiritual functions.

When a chakra is "balanced," energy flows freely. When it's blocked, you may experience physical or emotional issues related to that energy center. Crystal healing uses specific stones to help balance each chakra.

The 7 Chakras and Their Stones

1. Root Chakra (Muladhara) — Base of spine. Theme: Safety, survival, grounding.

Stones: Obsidian, Black Tourmaline, Red Jasper, Hematite.

2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) — Lower abdomen. Theme: Creativity, passion, pleasure.

Stones: Carnelian, Orange Calcite, Sunstone.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) — Upper abdomen. Theme: Confidence, willpower, self-esteem.

Stones: Citrine, Tiger's Eye, Yellow Jasper.

4. Heart Chakra (Anahata) — Center of chest. Theme: Love, compassion, connection.

Stones: Rose Quartz, Jade, Green Aventurine.

5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) — Throat. Theme: Communication, truth, self-expression.

Stones: Turquoise, Lapis Lazuli, Blue Lace Agate.

6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) — Between eyebrows. Theme: Intuition, perception, wisdom.

Stones: Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite.

7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) — Top of head. Theme: Spiritual connection, higher consciousness.

Stones: Amethyst, Clear Quartz, Selenite.

How to Use Chakra Stones

Wear them. The easiest way to balance chakras is to wear the corresponding stone as jewelry. A rose quartz bracelet supports the heart chakra; an amethyst bracelet supports the third eye and crown.

Meditate with them. Lie down and place the stone on the corresponding chakra point. For example, place rose quartz on your chest for the heart chakra.

Carry them. Keep chakra stones in your pocket or bag for ongoing support.
